Some Useful information if Hiring a Car from Dublin Airport or City.

eFlow is the Barrier-Free Tolling system in operation on Dublin's M50 Motorway.
Check with your Dublin Car Hire company on collection if they want you to pay the toll as you go or if they will pay and charge your card, as can be seen lower down the page the
penalty for non payment can be high.
Barrier-Free Tolling is achieved by an electronic toll collection system. The electronic toll system records trips by detecting an electronic tag (for those vehicles equipped with an
electronic tag) or in the case of vehicles without tags, the toll system records the vehicle's number plate.
M50 users who choose not to register can opt to 'pay as you go' and must pay the toll by 8pm on the day following their journey. Unregistered users can pay online (,
by phone (Local 1890 50 10 50) or through Payzone branded outlets nationwide. Just look for the Payzone sign.
For unregistered users, if you don't pay your toll by 8pm on the day following your journey, an additional penalty of €3 will be added to the outstanding toll amount. If you fail to pay
the toll and the initial €3 penalty within the next 14 days, a further penalty of €39.50 will be levied. Failure to pay the full amount due within a further 56 days will result in an
additional €98.00 penalty being applied. Thereafter legal proceedings will be initiated.
Location: The M50 motorway is a radial route around Dublin and is intersected by the principal radial routes, i.e., M1, M2, N3, N4 (also serving N6), N7 (also serving N8 & N9) and
N11. Barrier-Free Tolling is in operation on  the M50 between Junction 6 (M50/N3 Blanchardstown) and Junction 7 (M50/N4 Lucan).

All vehicles using the section of the M50 between Junction 6 (N3 Blanchardstown) and Junction 7 (N4 Lucan) are liable to pay a toll. There is no cash payment facility available at the
tolling point on the M50. Unregistered users must pay the toll by 8pm on the day following the journey. Payment can be made by quoting the Rental vehicles registration number: If
you intend to use the M50 on your return journey to Dublin Airport car rental drop-off locations, remember to allow enough time to make your toll payment. Toll payment is
available at the petrol station at the entrance, exit of Dublin Airport.

Some Guidelines and Tips for driving your Dublin Car Rental in Ireland;

English is the common language in the Republic of Ireland and all road signs are in English.

In both South and Northern Ireland all traffic drives on the LEFT side of the Road. Most visitors flying into the Republic of Ireland arrive at either Shannon, Cork or Dublin Airports.
These airports are located outside of the City Centre's and when you collect your Irish Rental Car you will have time to get used  to the local driving conditions before reaching some of
the more built up area's.

In Dublin most of the cheapest rental cars are Manual Transmission (Stick Shift), Automatic cars are available but are generally more expensive to rent. (You can specify which
transmission you would prefer when you make your booking). If you are visiting Ireland from the UK then most of the road signs, road markings and roundabout's will be familiar to
you. If you are visiting from continental Europe or the USA then it may take you a little while to get used to the road layouts and driving on the "other" side of the road. Your Irish Car
Rental company should supply you with a Road Map which will help you find your way around.

Some road Safety tips for Ireland;
To help you enjoy your Dublin Car Rental  and your visit, we have collected some Irish Road Safety Information and some general information.

Car Rental Safety
Your Dublin Rental Car will be provided to you in good condition, and you, as the driver of the vehicle, will be responsible for ensuring that the car, whilst in your care, is roadworthy
and safe. We would suggest checking your car; Tyres, Brakes, Vehicle operation, Lights and other essential items on collection before driving, if you find any faults point them out to
the Irish Rental Car Company reps at the car collection point..

Drink Driving in Ireland;
Ireland has been clamping down on drink driving in recent years so that drink driving is not tolerated with severe penalties imposed on people who have a legal reading of over 80mg per
100ml of blood. This equates to approximately one Pint of Beer. Do not attempt to drive your hire/rental car or any other vehicle whilst under the influence of Alcohol in Ireland. The
easiest rule of thumb so as not to break the law is Do not Drink and Drive.

Baby and Child Seats in Ireland;
New rules were introduced in 2006 with regard to Baby and child car seats in Ireland, basically they are as follows and apply to all cars including hir/rental cars in Ireland.
If in the front seat all children must either be in a child seat or wear a seat belt. There are no exceptions to this rule. In the rear seat children less than four years must use an appropriate
child restraint. Children over 4 years must use an appropriate child restraint, where available, or a seat belt. Where airbags are fitted the renter should check the rental car handbook
about any special precautions or limitations to be taken when using a child restraint in the front seat. Your Rental Car will have fitted seat belts for all passenger seats.

Seat Belts
Unless exempted, every person in a car is legally obliged to wear a seat belt where one is fitted. That includes drivers and front and rear passengers. The driver is responsible for
ensuring that passengers under 17 years of age comply with the law. The maximum fine is EUR 200 for a persons first offence. Exempted persons: Some persons are exempted in
accordance with the regulations, e.g. Gardai Siochana, Defence Forces etc., including persons holding a medical certificate that it is inadvisable on medical grounds to wear a seatbelt (or
child restraint).

Safe Driving
Please take care, especially at junctions, we want you to enjoy your Car Rental experience in Ireland as much as possible. If this is your first time to experience driving on the left hand
side of the road take some time to get used to it, remember to place yourself in the center of the road as the driver.

If you are unfortunate enough to have an accident in your Irish Rental Car you must report this to the GARDAI, (POLICE), and should do this before leaving the scene. You can
contact the GARDAI from any telephone by dialing 999. All emergency services can be contacted at any time by dialing 999 including the Fire Service, Ambulance and Coastal Rescue,
though it must be remembered that this is for emergencies only. You must also inform your Rental Car company if you have an accident. You will find their contact details on the Car
Rental  Documents that you received at the time of your Irish Car Rental collection.
